KidZ at Heart Newsletter - November 2017

"And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others." 2 Timothy 2:2

From Gordon & Becki

Whenever Scripture talks about knowing God, the word “know” suggests much more than an intellectual cognition of facts. In the same way, the Christian life is far more than abiding by a set of rules or principles for daily living.

While most of us know these two statements to be true about our own relationship with Jesus, adults are too quick to take the heart out of the gospel for children and replace it with a set of facts to believe and standards by which to live. In Jesus’ day, people who taught this were called Pharisees.

It is critical that we change how we (parents, schools, churches) teach children faith. We must focus on nurturing the child’s spiritual formation. Read more.

Spiritual Formation in the Church

Learn how genuine spiritual formation can take place in our churches. Knowing that we can never take people to places we’ve never been, this conference will challenge leaders in their own formation as they consider how formation can occur in children, students, and adults. KidZ at Heart President and Co-Founders, Gordon and Becki West will lead Connecting Children with God. Read more.

Next Steps in Certification

We’re thrilled to announce that the entire coursework for the KidZ Ministry Teacher Certificate has been completed. As part of the KidZ Ministry Certification Program, the Teacher Certificate provides attendees with a sense of accomplishment as they learned key and culturally-relevant truths about how children learn, how to create an effective lesson, and how to make space for children and God to connect.

In addition, all of the training material for this certificate is translated into Spanish, making it completely available to our KidZ at Heart licensed trainers in El Salvador. And they are now beginning the certificate training in Nicaragua. What a blessing!

Pumpkin P.I.E.

In Matthew 9:35-38, Jesus makes two comparisons. Those of us living in the city may not relate that well to the first – a shepherdless bunch of sheep, but with pumpkins piled high in our supermarkets, we can surely visualize a harvest scene. Let someone draw a pumpkin on a large sheet of paper – or paste a picture or illustration in the center. Neatly print PRAY FOR HARVESTERS across the top and then invite everyone to print the name of a spiritual harvester they know about on a bright, ‘sticky’ note and put these around the pumpkin on your poster.
